Deck & Railing – Truckee, CA
Design/Build – Initially a tear-down of an existing rear deck and restaining of the entire home, the clients decided to replace deteriorated siding, lighting and a sliding glass door. The owners approved the use of pressure-treated structural support components, con-heart redwood 2×6 decking, 4×4 posts, 3×4 rails and 4×8 cap rail. The .25 thick woven crimp lock rusted raw metal mesh fills the voids between posts and rails. The stairs were constructed of 4×16 treads for ease of use when exiting the deck to enjoy cross-country ski-in/ski-out.
Small to medium rocks uncovered in the excavation of footing was saved on-site. Our client asked for suggestions on how to incorporate the collection of rock and our solution was to build an outside fire pit area lined with the rock. We installed an approved fire ring with a spark arrestor to comply with fire prevention regulations, enabling users to rest their feet upon the rock while enjoying the winter wonderland surrounding this parcel.
